Food Tour in Paris.
French food and drink are justly famous: fine wines, a huge array of different cheeses, foie gras, oysters and other delicacies, but who can forget the gastronomic wonders of French baking, from eclairs and macarons to millefeuille and profiteroles?
With the help of a range of specialist workshops and food tours in Paris, dive into the wonderful world of French pâtisserie making!
We’ve all heard of wine tasting and wine tasting notes – there’s even a word, oenology, referring to the science and study of wine and wine-making. However, have you ever thought about applying the same approach to pâtisseries?
Honoré is doing just that, with tailor-made walking tours and workshops that take a closer look at both the science and the art behind some of France’s most famous – and mouth-watering culinary creations.
Enjoy learning about pâtisseries from the chefs and experts who make them!
Our pâtisserie workshop will see expert Marion Thillou guide you through the different elements that comprise the typical artisanal pastry – flavour, texture, aroma, colour and even the sound it makes! Subject to availability, there’ll be professional pastry chefs on hand to talk about their job and explore the role the five senses play in pâtisseries and how these senses helped shape how they thought about their pastries and how they designed them.
To balance out eating with exercise, why not try out a walking food tour in Paris? Various tour routes are available, including the historic Marais district; bohemian, achingly romantic Montmartre and the elegant Invalides area. The walks follow a leisurely itinerary that’s no more than 2km long and focuses on specific themes such as chocolate, fruits, viennoiseries and more. The small group size (a maximum of 8 people per group) and knowledgeable, enthusiastic tour guides help give this activity a really personal feel. Bigger groups are possible on request.
Both pâtisserie workshops and food tours in Paris are customized to your requirements and are a great present for a loved one, with gift certificates available to purchase for both tours and workshops. Both activities represent an excellent idea for a hen or stag party, a birthday celebration or even just for some unusual fun with friends.
Businesses will also be interested in their potential as a team-building activity or corporate reward for employees. There really is something to whet every appetite!
Tasting sessions last for 90 minutes and include tastings of both the ingredients and the finished product. Chocolate, dried fruit, Danish, biscuits, cakes, tarts and lots of other gourmet pastries are on the menu.
The workshops are designed to be informative but fun too, and questions are always welcome! Games to help you show how your brain sometimes plays tricks on you and fools your senses are also organized.
Each participant receives a tasting template in French or English so you can put what you’ve learned during the workshop into practice back home and indulge your tastebuds a little further!
If you want to discover local culinary treasures but prefer a little more independence, then a food tour smartphone app may be the way to go. It’s designed to be very easy to use and is an excellent way of tailoring a food tour of Paris – or indeed, other cities – to your interests and personal requirements. For example, it can be customized right down to how many pastries you wish to eat and how far you want to walk. There is even a gluten-free or vegan setting!
The app has a number of itineraries from which to choose or you can answer a short questionnaire which will create custom tours for you. You’ll be guided past various sights and into pastry shops and bakeries where you can collect your pastries, which you’ll be able to appreciate thanks to your newly-acquired Pâtissologie® skills! The cost of the city tours and the pâtisseries you’ll enjoy along the way is included in one fee. The app should be ready in Autumn 2022. It will cover Paris as well as major French cities such as Lille, Toulouse, Nantes, Marseille, Lyon and Bordeaux.
